8 Years

My name is Julie H. and I will celebrate 8 years on July 5th. I arrived at Parker Valley Hope from detox at a local hospital. I remember insisting that I not be taken home first because I knew the cycle would start all over again. My Mom and Dad had to bring my personal belongings to me later. That was ONE of my jumping off points on the road to recovery. The first 2 days at PVH I did NOT go to the chapel services…..I wasn’t going down that road! In a group meeting one of the counselors “suggested” everyone who has not been to chapel at 6am give it a try. She went on to let everyone know that statistics proved the chance for long term recovery greatly increased for those that were open to chapel services at 6am every morning. I demanded an explanation! I was told there was no specific reason but it just works and to give it a try. I did and it did and it does today! I opened that door just a crack and my higher power was ready and waiting to come in. I did not miss a chapel service for the next 28 days. I got a sponsor. I did 120 meetings in 90 days. I worked the steps and did as I was told. I learned how to live on the outside clean and sober one day at a time.
