A Craving - This Too Shall Pass!

Webster's defines a craving as "an intense or prolonged desire; yearning or appetite." This definition is quite accurate when describing the physical wanting of a drug or a drink, but it lacks the mental part. The obsession that accompanies our desire to take a drink or use a drug. That moment of insanity when we decide this time it won' t hurt us; this time it will be different. A craving feels like, just what the dictionary describes, an intense or powerful desire to satisfy a want, not a need. The only defense of not succumbing to a craving is a firm grasp of a program of recovery, a relationship with a Higher Power and the knowledge that it goes away. A craving is often momentary and fleeting. Remember this too shall pass. - Mandy M.
